Amazing Views And Sleek Design In the Sunshine Canyon Residence

Elevated at 7,500 feet, the Sunshine Canyon Residence by THA Architecture has unparalleled views. While the house is only seven miles away from downtown Boulder, Colorado, the house looks like it's isolated in the area's amazing scenery.

After losing their previous home to a forest fire three years ago, the couple that commissioned the house decided they were willing to risk the same fate as long as it meant taking advantage of their incredible natural setting. They even purchased property on a steep slope that was burned down in the same fire.

The 2,200 square-foot home is perched right on the hillside and offers floor-to-ceiling windows on the slope's side to fully take in the canyon view. The striking design makes it look like the mountains are framed so well from the inside they almost look like they're a part of the home itself.

The north side of the house has two slotted spaces to let natural light enter the living room and master bedroom, while a skylight illuminates the hallway between the living room and bedroom. On the south side of the house, the windows are glazed to help seal in light from the winter sun so it can be used to heat the concrete floor, keeping the home warm naturally. Additionally, heat is provided from a geothermal heat pump and other eco-friendly additions ensure the house has a minimal carbon footprint.
