When Atelye70 was commissioned to renovate the 19th century Gabriel Apartment, it was obvious the architect needed to modernize the abode while still maintaining the original beauty, adorned with accents inspired by traditional Ottoman style. The firm responsible for the modernization is well known for their work updating historic structures, and this project was no exemption. Originally designed by Italian architect Guglielmo Semprini, the historic structure has always been impressive and the remodel maintained that timeless integrity while modernizing the space to maximize resident comfort.
The apartment didn't start out as such. Instead, it was designed as a servants' quarters in the top floor of a palace. Even the servants were treated to luxury in this residence -their living quarters were adorned with beautiful, decorative frescoes. Atelye70 started the renovation with a focus on the flooring. The original frescoes and wooden flooring were preserved while the original white plaster was removed, allowing more light to flow into the structure.
